Master Perfumer Mathilde Bijaoui says that she has really loved the unexpected element of working with cereals and grains as the focus of fragrance creation – “It’s somewhere in perfumery I have never seen before.” I love to see Jo Malone covering new ground and highlighting all the wonderful home grown ingredients we have in the UK.

This is such an interesting collection – all the way from the highly original concept of using cereals and grains found in the fields, to the bottles that combine a shiny ceramic finish with a stone texture. I love the look of them so much – they are totally different for Jo Malone but really beautiful.

I have two of the scents Oat & Cornflower and Primrose & Rye. Now, I have a bit of a thing for oats so I was drawn instantly to Oat & Cornflower.

I think this one lends itself very well to being a unisex scent as it’s warm and musky with a gorgeous earthy base of Vetiver. It is quite masculine (in a good way) at first, and then dries down to a lovely creamy skin-like warmth that’s super comforting and a tiny bit sweeter. I really like it. They have done a great job of oats and it gets better and better as it wears on the skin.

The Primrose & Rye is really pretty. It is girlier than the Oat & Cornflower and really bright and sunny. It is floral but has a touch of smokiness about it that is really warming. Both of the fragrances have the earthiness that you’d expect from a collection inspired by English fields and I love earthy!
