What is Hourglass Unlocked Satin Creme Lipstick?

This is a brand new lipstick collection from Hourglass and forms part of the brand’s Unlocked collection which works to support the Nonhuman Rights Project by donating 5% of profits from all Unlocked products to the organisation.

The Nonhuman Rights Project aims to unlock the cages of wild animals in captivity.

My Review of

I have to say straight away, this lipstick is beautiful. The formula is perfectly creamy, they give the lips a soft, flattering shine and it’s such a comfortable finish.

The pigmentation is amazing. One swipe gives instant colour payoff and the colours I have seen so far are absolutely stunning. Out of the ten shades I have, there isn’t really one I don’t like.

Oasis 312 is a beautiful nude shade, and actually reminds me a little bit of Charlotte Tilbury’s Pillow Talk. And in fact, while we are on the subject of Charlotte Tilbury, I definitely think there are formulation similarities between the K.I.S.S.I.N.G formula and this new Hourglass Unlocked Satin Creme Lipstick formula.

They both have that wonderful creaminess and smooth application, with a satin sheen finish. I feel that the Hourglass pigment is slightly stronger, and the packaging feels a little more luxurious.

In terms of the packaging, it is super glam and very lovely to look at. I love the cut out Bunny H logo and the magnetic close. However, the shade label is on the lid, rather than the tube, so you have to be very careful to put back the right lid on the right shade if you have more than one open at a time.

That’s probably not the kind of problem you’d face in normal day to day life, but it just meant I had to pay close attention to matching the lid with she shade sticker on the tube. It’s just a swatching issue rather than a real life issue!

My other note on the packaging is that when the lid is off, you can’t stand the lipsticks upright, and they sit at slant, but again, it’s not a big problem.

Back to the formula which is absolutely lovely. I have tested out a couple of the shades for full days (Oasis and Dove so far) and they both wear really well. It’s a brilliant long lasting formula, and the colour doesn’t settle into fine lines, feather or smudge.

Application is flawless. The colour glides on so easily and delivers opaque covering in a single swipe which is super impressive. It really is a job well done by Hourglass. I can’t wait to wear more of the shades.

I also love that Hourglass have found a credible alternative to Carmine for the red pigment. Carine is actually made from crushed up beetles and is used widely in cosmetics. Red 0 is completely vegan and doesn’t use Carmine. I hope they share this technology with the wider beauty industry.

This is a super hyped lip launched, but I think it’s worth the hype!
