My Review of Hourglass Ambient Soft Glow Foundation

It has taken me quite some time to work out what I think about this foundation, and I’m really not sure why. I think it may be because it sets very quickly and I prefer a more kind of liquidy, moisturising formula that feels more like skincare.

When my skin is dehydrated, I find it harder to blend and sit well on my skin. I think it’s a little more matte than I’d like it, and if I go in too heavy, I really struggle to blend it out. A small amount and a light layer blended quickly is the best way for me, and I like it if I am careful about how I apply it.

I have answered the questions below that I gathered from my Instagram and Facebook Group below:

Is it suitable for oily, dry, mature skin?

I think this is probably good for all skin types. I think for mature, dry skin types, it’s definitely a good idea to moisturise and keep layers very light.

I feel like this will perform really well for an oily skin type too, especially if set with a powder.

What is the finish like?

It gives a soft matte finish with a hint of radiance. It isn’t really glowy. I’d call it a luminous matte with a slightly powdery finish. It blurs pores really nicely. It’s not a no-makeup look foundation. I find it more ‘makeup-y’.

What coverage does it deliver?

It’s a medium coverage that is buildable, although I have to say I prefer this foundation lightly applied. If I try to build this up too much, I find it gets a little cakey (although cakey may be too strong a word).

Is it longwearing?

I do find this foundation long wearing and haven’t noticed much movement or wearing away. Even when I haven’t powdered it, it doesn’t go greasy, so I am really impressed with the staying power. By the end of the day, it wears away a little around my nose.

Do you need to use a primer underneath?

I haven’t used a primer with this foundation so far, although I do find a prefer it with something very hydrating and moisturising underneath.

Do you need to powder it?

I haven’t been powdering. I’d imagine that setting the t-zone will increase longevity.

Is it easy to apply?

I think less is more with this foundation. If I apply a lot at once, I find it quite hard to make it sit on my skin nicely and it can cake a little bit. I feel like it dries down as I am applying it so it’s best to use small amounts and blend quickly.

What are the shades like?

I find the shade I chose has a slight yellow undertone which is ok for me because once blended it balances out the pinkiness in my complexion.

Does it contain SPF?

No, the Hourglass Ambient Soft Glow Foundation does not include any SPF.

Does it have a noticeable fragrance?

I can’t detect any fragrance in this formula.
