I thought that seeing as I have done a review of a rather lovely yet rather expensive By Terry Concealer today, I thought I better balance things up a bit with an appearance from something nice for the complexion from the more budget end of the scale. This is my review of Hema Illuminating Foundation.
Regular readers will know by now that I am a complete sucker for anything that promises to illuminate my complexion. I am all go for glow, so from the choice I had between the mattifying variety and the glow-getter variety, I went straight for the Hema Illuminating Foundation.
So Hema, the store itself, is a bit of a strange beauty destination. It originates in the Netherlands and is one of those ‘everything shops’ where you can get your hands on anything from a range of 12,000 products spanning Beauty and Bath, Clothing and Fashion Accessories, Homeware, Kitchen, Food and Drink, Stationery and Kids. Definitely not your Space NK!
Interestingly there’s an e shop and also 3 bricks and mortar stores in the UK, 2 of which I really should have spotted but I haven’t. One is in Bromley where I live, and the other is in Victoria station which I frequent much more than I wish I did. It seems I walk around with my eyes closed! The other location is in Kingston.
But back to the foundation!
Hema Illuminating Foundation Swatch Shade 1
Considering that this is the lightest shade, it isn’t that light, but shade 1 suits me well. I have shade 2 in the Hema Mattifying Foundation and that is pretty dark I have to say.
It’a a nice creamy foundation that offers long lasting hydration, a lovely glow to the skin, light yet buildable coverage and SPF15.
Hema Illuminating Foundation Before and After Photos
I actually really like this on my skin. The coverage is fresh and light and I really do like the glow it gives. It is natural looking and flattering, rather than super shiny and reflective. Set with a little powder it lasts well, and if you want to top up or layer a little, it’s easy to pop on with your fingers like a BB Cream.
I think it’s a great little foundation as an everyday option or when you are rationing your more expensive numbers. Hema Illuminating Foundation is £7. You can find it the stores, or shop online, although I can’t see this particular foundation there just yet. Check out the Hema beauty offering here.
