My Review of ghd Chronos

To look at, the ghd Chronos looks pretty similar to their most recently launched straighteners, the Platinum +. If you study them more closely, you will notice some design differences like shorter length, although the plate size is the same.

Like the Platimum+, the Chronos has one switch to turn it on, but this button is slightly larger. It makes a noise when it has reached its 185 degree temperature. A new feature you will notice is that there is a light on the outside of the straightener, above where the cord attaches, which illuminates to show that the tool is turned on.

In terms of performance, I have to say, I am really impressed with the Chronos. I am a huge fan of the Dyson Corrale, and have always chosen that tool over the Platinum+ as I love the way it glides through my hair and really minimises damage.

The Chronos seems to address the areas where the previous ghd straighteners fell down in comparison to Dyson’s clever heat regulation technology. However, you can choose between three heat settings with the Dyson, whereas ghd only ever offer 185 degree heat.

Putting that aside, I really like the enhanced glide on the hair that the Chronos offers. It feels effortless as I pull the hair through the plates, and it leaves a lovely shine, much like the Dyson Corrale. You can use it with pretty big sections too.

I have straight hair, so I’ll be using these to put waves or curls in, and it does this job really well. I found it nice and long lasting, even after exercise and so I’d say that it lives up to its 24 hour lasting results claim.

One thing to note is that the ghd Chronos is not cheap. At £289, it is quite the investment. However, if you are looking to replace your straighteners, I’d say the Chronos is definitely the one to choose over the Platinum + if you can afford it. However, if you are already happy with your current straighteners, then you don’t need these new ones.

Frequently Asked Questions

ghd Chronos – Is it worth it?

Obviously, this really depends on the individual. I think this styler certainly delivers on its claims, and if you are in the market for a new pair of ghds, I’d say it would be wise to choose these ones over the Platinum+ version.

Are the new ghd straighteners as good as the old ones?

Anyone that has had a pair of the original ghds may have heard that later editions have never lived up to the ones from the ghd early days. I believe that with the launch of Chronos, they have really nailed the technology and performance is better than ever.

Is ghd Chronos better than Platinum+

In terms of the shine claim, Platinum+ is 75% more shine whereas the Chronos is 85% more shine. The Chronos also offers 3 times more breakage protection, and the with Platinum+ it is 2 times more breakage protection.
