I never tan and when I say never I mean never. I was once asked on day nine of a ten day trip to Egypt if I’d arrived that morning! So I always use SPF 30 or above and don’t actively spend time lying in the sun because of concerns re UV damage. But a nice golden glow to the skin can make it look a little healthier in most people’s eyes.
I’ve tried a few different tan accelerators in the past without any success. However, Gatineau is a brand I’d used before with good results so I had higher hopes for this accelerator. Tan accelerators work by boosting the skin’s melanin production which aids tanning. Find it here

The Gatineau Tan Accelerating Lotion contains the following ingredients:
- MAP Melanin Activating Peptide – stimulates the production of Melanin
- Vanilla Extract – reduces inflammation
- Sweet Orange – conditioning agent with antioxidant properties
- Daffodil Extract – soothes the skin and alleviates discomfort
- Melatogenine – restores and regenerates the skin (and is a famous Gatineau youth activating module from its premium skincare)
Gatineau Tan Accelerating Lotion has been developed to be used up to two weeks prior to sun exposure. You simply replace your normal moisturiser with the tan accelerator. It can be used on face and body. The best thing is that Tan accelerator also works as an aftersun so can save valuable suitcase space- I’d personally pack more makeup! There is no SPF within the product so please ensure you use one, there have been several we’ve reviewed on here you can look at to ensure you protect the skin.

I’ve been using Gatineau Tan Accelerating Lotion for about 3-4 weeks and have noticed that on my twenty minute walk to and from work each day (wearing SPF 30) that I’ve actually started to get a slight colour to my skin. This was also evident when I recently visited the Deciem store. When I was shade matched for the Serum and Coverage foundations I was a shade darker than Michelle and we’re normally exactly the same.
So for me, who doesn’t really change colour but doesn’t spend much time in the sun to achieve any changes in colouring is a very good result indeed. I found the texture to be hydrating but lightweight enough to dress quickly after application. For any future holidays I will certainly be using for the weeks leading up to and during my holiday itself.
If like me you resemble Caspar the Friendly Ghost why don’t you see what results you can achieve?
