What Is Fenty Pro Filt’r Fluid Flex Foundation?

Fenty Pro Filt’r Fluid Flex Natural Matte Longwear Foundation is a medium, buildable coverage foundation with a natural matte finish.

It comes in 50 shades and is designed to provide up to 12 hours of wear. Fenty describes it as waterproof, sweat-resistant, humidity-resistant and transfer-resistant.

The formula is a water-and-silicone hybrid and is talc-free and fragrance-free. Fenty also says that it is suitable for all skin types.

My Review

The Formula

The first thing I noticed about Fluid Flex is how lightweight it feels. Despite giving a decent amount of coverage, it doesn’t feel thick or heavy on my skin. It spreads easily and blends without any effort, which is always a good start for me because I don’t want to spend ages working foundation into my skin.

The coverage is medium and buildable, so I can add more where I need it without having to put a full second layer over my entire face. I also really like the way it sits on the skin. It doesn’t go cakey and, even when I build it up, it still looks quite natural.

The Finish

This is probably the thing I like most about it. Fenty calls it a natural matte finish, and I think that’s a pretty accurate description, but I would specifically call it a soft matte.

It isn’t the sort of matte foundation that completely removes every last bit of dimension from your skin. There’s still some glow there.

I get the smooth, perfected look I want from a matte foundation, but my skin doesn’t look completely flat or overly powdered.

The Blurring Effect

Fluid Flex is particularly good at making the skin look smoother. It has quite a noticeable blurring and skin-perfecting effect, which is one of the reasons I think it looks so good despite feeling so lightweight.

It evens out the appearance of my complexion and softens the look of pores and texture without making my skin look obviously filtered.

You can see the difference in my before and after photographs below. The overall effect is a much more even and perfected complexion, but it still looks like skin.

How It Looks on My Skin

It’s not trying to give you a dewy, juicy complexion. Instead, it gives that smooth, softly perfected finish where the skin looks really even but there is still some life to it.

And because it doesn’t need much powder, I don’t end up with that increasingly matte look as the day goes on.

How It Wears

The staying power is excellent. Fenty says that the formula is waterproof and designed to resist sweat, humidity and transfer, and I can see why they’ve made those claims because it really does stay put.

It’s one of those foundations that I would reach for when I know I’ve got a long day ahead because I don’t feel I need to worry about it disappearing halfway through.

It feels very lightweight while you’re wearing it, but it has serious staying power. That’s quite a nice combination.

Does It Need Powder?

Very little, in my experience. Because the foundation already has that soft-matte finish, I don’t feel the need to cover my whole face with powder after applying it.

I’ll powder selectively if I want to, but I think this is one of the advantages of the formula. You get the polished, controlled finish without having to keep adding powder.

Does It Go Cakey?

No. I can build the coverage without it becoming thick or cakey, and I think the lightweight texture is a big part of that. Even when I’ve added more around areas that need extra coverage, it still looks fairly natural.

Is It Good for Long Days?

This is where I think Fluid Flex really comes into its own for me. If I’m going somewhere and know I’m going to be out for hours, I want a foundation I can trust. I don’t necessarily want the most dewy or beautiful foundation for the first hour. I want something that still looks good several hours later.

This is one I would happily choose for a long day because of the combination of lightweight feel and staying power.
