Embryolisse Hydra-Mat Emulsion Review

Summer is my favourite time of year but it plays havoc with my skin and my makeup. All I want is to be able to moisturise my skin, apply my makeup and for it to last all day. Why is that so hard to achieve? Well it was until I tried Embryolisse Hydra-Mat Emulsion. This is a lightweight moisturiser that hydrates skin whilst leaving it matte in finish.

Apparently a favourite with various celebrities -the PR mentions Gwyneth Paltrow, Karlie Kloss and Maisie Williams as fans- I was keen to try it out. 

Embryolisse say:

“This freshness care ensures optimum moisturising and a long-lasting matte effect…its cool gelled texture really penetrates the skin, leave it soft, smooth and matte all day long”.

This is a big claim and one that has really been put to the test in our very short and quick heatwave in England.

Embryolisse Hydra-Mat Emulsion Results

I applied the cream every morning before doing my makeup. It’s a thick, white consistency that dries into the skin quickly. My face instantly felt smoother and hydrated and quickly became matte. However, this isn’t to be confused with it feeling dry, because that definitely isn’t the same. When using the Embryolisse the skin feels like it has absorbed the cream (hence the hydration) and then doesn’t want to let it seep back out of the pores (hence the matte feeling).

I usually wear a primer underneath my makeup. Whilst trailing Hydra-mat I’ve gone without one several times and it performs well at keeping makeup in place and keeping oiliness at bay.

It smells quite strong but that doesn’t linger on the skin at all. You can smell the undertones of Shea Butter and apricot oil which are natural active ingredients; the smell reminds me of Aloe Vera – that cooling, soothing feeling.

The price for the Hydra-Mat Emulsion is £21.24 for 40ml which I personally think is a good price. This is a perfect summer moisturiser as it hydrates the skin but eliminates shine by absorbing excess sebum, leaving your skin looking radiant but oil free.  What more could you want!?
