Does Sensodyne Repair & Protect Work?

Now the colder weather is creeping in it plays havoc for the 1 in 3 people like myself who suffer from sensitive teeth. As nice as a hot chocolate or flavoured coffee can be after coming in from the cold, the short sharp pain makes it a less than enjoyable treat.

The scientists at Sensodyne, a name synonymous with sensitive teeth, have a toothpaste and mouthwash designed to help those sufferers. Tooth sensitivity occurs when tiny holes in the dentine layer beneath the enamel come into contact with something hot or cold. Sensodyne Repair and Protect containing NovaMin claims to provide a protective coating over these holes reducing exposure to the fluid in the dentine holes that cause the sensitivity. But does Sensodyne repair & Protect work?

As I love a hot drink at any time I was keen to see how these performed. The recommendation is to just brush as normal twice a day and follow brushing with the mouthwash.

I use an electric toothbrush and dutifully brushed as directed, they recommend minimising swallowing. The toothpaste has a lovely mild minty taste and left my teeth feeling very clean after brushing.

After brushing I used the cool mint mouthwash. The cap has a handy measuring guide to allow you to use the recommended amount. I swilled for the recommended time of one minute. There was no stinging feeling like I experience with alcohol based mouthwashes. Personally this means I’m more likely to use it as I normally avoid mouthwash for this reason.

From the first day I’ve noticed less sensitivity and I seem to be building more of a tolerance day by day. I haven’t quite been brave enough to bite an ice cube but after a few more weeks of use I may well feel confident enough to give it a go.

Does sensodyne repair & Protect work? Would I recommend this? Absolutely. I’ve already purchased a couple more tubes whilst they were on offer in my nearest supermarket. As I normally flit from toothpaste to toothpaste for me this is quite a commitment. Now, where’s the ice cream?
