Emma Watson is everywhere right now thanks to the release of Beauty and the Beast. I’m never going to achieve her level of fame and success, but one thing I can achieve is lashes like hers; in fact, so can you!  In a recent interview Emma spoke about her favourite mascara, the DHC Mascara Perfect Pro Double Protection.

DHC is a Japanese beauty company that I hadn’t come across before. They use olive oil in their products so it’s an unusual hybrid of Japanese invention and Spanish olive oil. DHC started life in Japan in 1980 with just 3 products in their range. They have since grown to be a global beauty force to be reckoned with.

DHC Mascara Perfect Pro Double Protection uses Japanese tubing technology. It wraps your lashes in water- resistant polymer tubes; this technology means that the mascara will not clump, smudge, run or flake off. You apply as you would normally, but the recommended removal technique is to use warm water and gently slide your fingers down the length of the lashes, this will remove the mascara without need for rubbing, or make up removers- great for people with sensitive eyes and even better with festival season coming up!!

Emma is a fan of this mascara for that exact reason, this is what she had to say:

“The only mascara I use is from DHC. The thing is, I really, really hate using harsh makeup removers, especially around my eyes. They sting and make my eyes water and don’t feel good to me. But the DHC mascara only comes off in warm water. So, I use it on films because if I’m in a tank or it’s raining, then the mascara doesn’t run because it won’t move in cold water. And the brush is nice. I swear by it.”

I was intrigued by the fact you can remove this mascara with water as I am a contact lens wearer with sensitive eyes. Most makeup removers that are gentle enough don’t tend to be effective enough.

The first thing you will notice is that the brush is very narrow, quite unlike most of the mascaras on the market. I like this though as I feel it can get right to the base of the lashes. A simple sweep was all it took to apply this mascara (I don’t do the whole wiggle your brush to apply mascara, never have and probably never will!) so if I can get a noticeable result with my incorrect technique, you will definitely see one if you apply your mascara properly.

The mascara is a lovely glossy black so it looked good on my naturally dark lashes, there was no need to comb back through as the lashes were very well separated by the brush.

I wore the mascara for the first time on a typical Spring day- it was chucking it down! The mascara looked just as good 14 hours after application as it did freshly applied; no panda eyes from the rain. Removal was very easy, I just moistened my fingers with warm water and slid them down my lashes, the mascara came straight off. I had to go to Birmingham for a night to visit head office with work, I didn’t bother taking a makeup remover specifically for eyes with me as it wasn’t needed.

I can see why Emma raved about this mascara, I received a long-lashed look that lasted, I didn’t see any smudging, even in the rain and it’s super easy to remove. I have been using this mascara daily since I received it and I will continue to do so. I will also be trying some of the other DHC products to see how they compare.

DHC products are paraben free and fragrance free and suitable for sensitive skin. DHC Mascara Perfect Pro Double Protection is available here
