My Review

I knew I liked this primer as soon as I applied it to my skin. It feels like skincare in the lightest way, and it smooths into the skin effortlessly.

It is super comfortable on the skin, with a weightless feel and no tackiness. The Clinique Even Better Light Reflecting Primer gives the skin a lovely instant glow and I think it would work well as a super light base to add a touch of concealer on top on minimal makeup days.

I tested it under foundation, as that’s its primary use. I opted for one of my current favourites – the Cle de Peau Radiant Fluid Foundation Natural – which I love for how smooth it makes my skin look, and how long lasting it is – but I sometimes wish it was a tiny bit glowier.

The Clinique Even Better Light Reflecting Primer underneath that foundation just lifts it a perfect amount and gives it the kind of glow that I love.

Here’s a photo of the Cle de Peau Radiant Fluid Foundation Natural without the primer so you can compare. This is just the foundation (sorry it’s a bit of an old pic from that foundation blog post when I first wrote it a couple of years ago):

I think it just gives it an extra lift and radiance that’s super flattering without looking overly reflective. I also found I could use a bit less foundation and still get a lovely flawless look.

I tested it over about 6 hours (I was quite late to do makeup that day) but it my makeup literally stayed looking freshly applied and just like I have a really healthy-looking complexion. I almost didn’t want to take my makeup off at bedtime.

I am going to test it out with a couple of other bases too, and if there’s anything game-changing I need to report, I’ll update here. For now, it is has gone straight into my makeup bag. I think it will be great for refreshing makeup from day to night too, so I’ll give that a whirl too.

I haven’t tested the skincare benefits over time, and of course I use a lot of other skincare too, but I love the fact that it contains Vitamin C and three types of HA for brightening and hydration. There’s something called Acetyl Glucosamine as well, which also targets uneven tone, so it has a good amount of skincare in there if you are looking for a hybrid product.
