Cantu are a beauty brand that focuses their hair care products on natural curly hair. They have a range of hair products which are ultimately designed to bring the life back to your natural hair curls. I was recently able to try out their Cantu Shea Butter Leave-In Conditioning Repair Cream and Moisturising Curl Activator Cream. Let’s see how I got on!

One of the first things I noticed about the Cantu products was the fact that they included the ingredient Shea butter. Shea butter originates from the seeds of the fruit on the Shea Tree in Africa. Its off-white fatty consistency can be used in multiple ways. It’s great for skin and hair due to it being naturally rich in vitamins A, E and F.

I feel like at this point I need to give you some context to my own hair. I am of African descent, so my hair would be considered ‘afro’ in its texture – with my own hair in particular having more tighter coils and shrinking in length when dampened. My hair has recently been very dry. I’ve also experienced a bit of breakage so I was excited to try the Cantu products.

Cantu Leave-In Condtitioning Repair Cream
The Cantu Leave-In Conditioning Repair Cream claims to provide ‘intense moisture leaving hair soft and manageable’ and is ‘formulated for damaged, dry or coarse hair’. It has a thick, white and creamy consistency and a pleasant, sweet scent to it. I used this product daily, initially after washing my hair and then daily to the ends of my hair to help my split ends. I found that my hair feels softer, and is definitely easier to comb through. I’ve experienced less breakage too which is great.

Cantu Moisturising Curl Activator Cream
The Cantu Moisturising Curl Activator Cream claims to smooth your hair and enhance your natural curl pattern. It also claims to be free from mineral oil, sulfates, parabens, silicones, phthalates, gluten, paraffin and propylene. Having used this cream alongside the leave-in conditioner as my styling cream I noticed that it helped to define my natural coils in my hair. It also helped to define my curls when I styled my hair into a twist-out.
I was quite satisfied with how these products worked on my natural hair and will definitely continue to use them. I will say that as the creams are both white, on my dark hair it did appear to leave a residue initially. Fortunately that went away after styling. You can find the Cantu Shea Butter Hair Range here
