When I shared on Instagram that I was going to tint my brows myself for the very first time, my friend (and amazing brow expert) Lisa Potter-Dixon offered to guide me through it on screen via Zoom. I recorded the whole thing so that I could share this excellent Brow Tinting Tutorial. I am so happy with my brows now.
Brow Tinting Tutorial Video
This tutorial takes you through the steps in real time, so you can literally follow along as I dye and trim my brows, and do yours at the same time. I ask all the obvious questions so we pretty much have everything covered!!
What You Need
I bought the Eylure DYBROW Eyebrow Dye Kit in Dark Brown.* This box will last you months!
You will also need:
- a few wet cotton pads
- micellar water to cleanse your brows before you start
- An angled brow or wing liner brush
- Vaseline or other occlusive product
- Nail scissors
Brow Tinting Tutorial
Make sure you do a patch test 24 hours before to check you aren’t allergic to the dye. This is really easy – just dab a tiny bit of cream behind your ear, and if nothing happens, you are good to go. If you get a reaction, just make sure you wash it off.
Brow Tinting Tutorial – The Steps
Mix The Colour
You put a little line of cream – like 1 cm – into the mixing tray and then add 5 drops of the activator. Mix it up with the angled brush you are going to use to apply until it’s smooth.
Protect The Skin
Place a small amount of Vaseline (I use Lip Balm) on the skin around the brows that you don’t want to dye.
Apply the Tint
Starting at the middle of the brow (and not the front) start to apply the colour in small brush strokes as if you are applying your brow product. Use the angled brush you used to mix it up. Be sure to catch all the hairs you want to tint. Make sure you add less product on the front to avoid looking like you have stuck on brows.
Set a timer
I left my colour on for about 6 minutes.
Remove the Dye
Use your wet cotton pad to remove the product. Go in one direction first from top to tail, to get off the majority of the dye. Then use a fresh pad to wipe backwards and forwards to make sure everything it removed.
And you’re done! If you want to also trim your brows, please do make sure you watch the video as this is a little hard to describe.
Brown Tinting Tutorial – The Results
I am so happy with my brows now and have got rid of those pesky white hairs that were really annoying me. Also, the whole brow looks so much fuller and more defined and I have been able to skip tinted brow products for the last few days. I am definitely going to do this again!!
