If you’re a fan of Britney Spears (and I defy anyone to tell me that Piece Of Me isn’t a work of postmodern pop genius) then the launch of her new limited edition fragrance, Britney Spears Maui Fantasy, is one you won’t want to miss.
Designed to be reminiscent of the scent of tropical escapes and the island of Maui, this is a fragrance that smells just like holidays. The packaging, a misty, aqua blue bottle, inspired by the sea and printed with a pink hisbiscus flower, is designed to evoke images of a tropical escape- a Maui fantasy.
With top notes of bird of paradise, pink grapefruit and passion fruit, mid notes of hibiscus petals, orange blossom and Hawaiian Monoi and base notes of vanilla, coconut, and soft blue musk, it’s a riot of tropical scents mixed with a soft muskiness that makes it smell clean and girlish.
The result isn’t an especially sophisticated fragrance, but let’s face it, that’s not what Britney’s about. Instead, it’s a sweet, summery, musky smell- floral but with a definite underlying coconut too. If you could capture the essence of Britney in her bubbly days in a bottle, then this is how I imagine it would smell.
I feel like perhaps it’s a scent I’m too old for- there’s something definitely youthful about it and it’s just a bit too sweet and cloying for my taste. If, however, you like sweet, floral fragrances and are looking for something beachy, lighthearted and fun to wear over the summer then this might just be perfect. Equally, if you’re buying for a teen, this will probably hit the sweet spot, my 13 year old cooed over both the scent and the packaging the moment I unwrapped it.
You can find the limited edition Britney Spears Maui Fantasy here for £35 for 100ml.
