Bowen Therapy is a dynamic system of muscle and connective tissue therapy, developed by the late Tom Bowen in Geelong, Australia. Bowen Technique offers a tremendous benefit to individuals from the newborn, to the elderly and the athlete.

Bowen Therapy pays particular attention to ‘fascia’ the connective tissue that covers the structures of the body that become dehydrated from injury, stress and strain. A Bowen Technique treatment affects the body in ways that promote healing, pain relief and recovery of energy. Gentle rolling movement of fingers and thumbs carries out this simple and effective practice over precise points of connective tissue and muscle. These movements encourage subtle changes and adjustments in the body, help to reduce pain, relieve stress and raise energy levels.

A Bowtech session consists of a series of gentle moves and ‘breaks’ (pauses in between) allowing the body to respond and repair. It can provide relief for many types of injuries and other health problems, both acute and chronic, longstanding and new, as well as addressing areas of concern, it creates a wonderful sense of relaxation.

Research has shown that stretches in fascia produce small electrical charges and is believed that Bowen sequences stimulate the body to repair.

Bowen Therapy  – Stress & Anxiety

The Bowen Technique is the ideal therapy to treat the overwhelming stressful conditions that bombard us throughout our life. The effects of stress on the physical and mental can lead to long term illness as well as short term pain. Stress increases the production of adrenalin in the body to enable us to cope but this has a knock on effect with blood pressure raised, digestion affected, onset of muscular aches and pains and sleep patterns disrupted.

This places the body in a constant state of alarm. Bowen Therapy allows the body to ‘switch’ over to the ‘parasympathetic’ nervous system which aids in rest and repair mode. Bowen Therapy is clinically proven to significantly reduce anxiety, tension and fatigue.

How Many Sessions?

Results can often be felt from the first visit, but it is important to remember that each body is unique. Some people respond quickly and feel remarkable improvements after only one session, another person may need 3-4 visits for a similar response. Remember, Bowen Therapy is prompting your body to heal itself and we cannot force, (manipulate) this.
