If you like innovation and science in your skincare then you’ll love the new Bioderma Hydrabio Eau De Soin- the world’s first water based facial mist that contains an SPF. Designed as a moisturising spf mist, the Hydrabio Eau De Soin took five years to develop due to the complexities of suspending UV protection in a water based product.
If you’re not familiar with the Bioderma Hydrabio range, it’s a line of skincare designed for those with dehydrated and sensitive skins. The aim of the products is not just to moisturise the skin, but to retrain the skin to moisturise itself and to rebuild its own natural defences.
As part of the the Hydrabio range, Eau de Soin is designed to be used as an spf mist to spray over the top of makeup, setting it in place, and also when out and about as an spf top-up during long, hot summer days. If you’ve ever been caught out by a sudden improvement in the weather and really needed to put more sunscreen on your face but were desperate not to mess up your makeup, this is the product for you.
Four sprays from 20cm away from the face provide SPF 30 protection, although it should be stressed that it’s not the kind of sunscreen you use to lie in the sun on holiday- more as a top up over makeup to a sunscreen you applied earlier or for day to day, around town sun care. I found that four sprays was more than adequate to completely cover my face, although I’d avoid getting it on your eyelids if you have really sensitive skin- mine felt slightly uncomfortable after I sprayed them directly to set eye makeup.
It’s also perfect as an addition to your usual skincare routine if your moisturiser doesn’t provide quite as much UV protection as you’d like.
As well as UV protection it also moisturises the skin and provides anti – ageing benefits through a mixture of vitamin E and a patented ingredient, aquagenium, which encourages skin to moisturise itself.
Thanks to the non oil formulation you can top it up and re-apply liberally throughout the day to cool and refresh yourself, as well as top up your UV protection. The water mist formulation means that each spray will actually set your makeup in place rather than cause it to slide off and it claims to leave no shine or oiliness. In testing, when I used it over my very light makeup I felt there was a very, very slightly more dewy, although not oily, finish to my makeup probably due to the fact that my very dry skin was better moisturised. It doesn’t leave the skin feeling oily in any way either- my skin was left with a velvety feel, but one that was definitely not oily or sticky in any way.
Thankfully, given its cooling and spf properties, it’s a non aerosol formulation and under 100ml which means it’s perfect to take on the plane if you’re jetting off somewhere warm this summer. Equally, it’s the ideal size to throw in a handbag or beach bag when you’re heading out to the park or down to the beach if you’re holidaying at home.
