Summer will be here in no time, which means our dry and sad skin may well need a pick-me-up. If you’re finding your regular moisturiser just isn’t cutting it any more, you may well want to try a body oil instead. The best body oils are rich and luxurious, and can deliver vitamins, proteins and amino acids to your skin. They sink in quickly and should leave your skin feeling nourished and summer ready. Applying them onto damp skin seems to be the method most recommended, like a grown up version of Baby Oil.
A good body oil won’t be cheap, as they’re full of high quality ingredients, so I decided to test four of the best out there:
Weleda Birch Cellulite Oil £21.95

What they say: “Invigorating massage oil for ‘orange-peel’ legs, thighs and buttocks – brisk, effective and entirely made from plants”
I say: “This is a natural oil, free from fragrance and mineral oils designed to smooth and tone the skin. Its main ingredient is apricot kernel oil, known for its high levels of vitamins A+E, both of which are great for the skin. It smells of lemon and sinks into the skin swiftly although I can’t comment on its cellulite removing properties in the short time I tried it. Find it here
trilogy Aromatic Body Oil £16.50

What they say: “Revitalise, relax, replenish with rosehip, rice bran and bergamot.”
I say: “Another natural oil, this time focusing on delivering moisture and skin nourishment. It’s main ingredient is sunflower seed oil, which has been blended with almond oil, rosehip oil and avocado oils. It soaked into the skin instantly, but I wasn’t that keen on the smell unfortunately. Temple Spa In Good Spirits Energising, Bathing & Massage Oil £24
What they say: “This luxurious treatment oil will help restore your equilibrium, naturally raise your energy levels and leave you feeling… IN GOOD SPIRITS! “
I say: A blend of over 30 Mediterranean oils designed to hydrate you skin and elevate your mood. It’s a dual purpose oil which is perk, you can massage it directly onto skin, or pour into the bath where it becomes a bath milk. This just pours straight out so be careful! This oil isn’t as dry as the others, so more suited to applying when you have a little longer to relax! Find it here
Pecksniff’s Dry Body Oil £25

What they say: “Formulated to absorb into the skin quickly, leaving skin feeling non-greasy and fully moisturised.”
I say: Designed to spray on, which makes it the easiest to apply, and enriched with argan oil. It’s the first oil to not smell quite so ‘herbally’ as this one is scented with sandalwood and vanilla. It’d definitely a dry oil, would be no good for a massage, but perfect for daily use. My favourite! Find it here
