Skincare Superfoods by Jemma Lamble.
Kale. It’s the leafy green that has fast become one of the biggest front runners in the super food trend of the past year; packed full of essential vitamins A, C and K, as well as a number of beneficial minerals, but kale is not just one to be digested, its nutritional benefits for our skin are just as robust.
Skincare brand NIP+FAB is the latest brand to harness the renowned benefits of the vegetable, and will be launching its Kale Fix range in October. The hero ingredient in the range, if not stating the obvious, is kale extract; combining the antioxidants needed to fight against skin damaging free radicals, while repairing the tissue underneath. This ultimately provides a plump and youthful look to the skin.
Now, I may only be twenty-three, but there’s no such thing as too early to start preparing our skin for the natural ageing process, and plumping now will save a hell of a lot of needed plump later on in life. The key product in NIP+FAB’s Kale Fix range, for me, is the Kale Fix Moisturiser (£19.95), which helps soften and provide comfort to dry skin – which my skin type sways toward. It is quite thick in consistency, which means I prefer to use this in the evening as opposed to the morning where it can be too heavy. Other ingredients include watercress and almond oil to enrich skin with deep nourishment, as well as aloe vera and shea butter to help improve surface texture. Not only does my skin feel baby bottom soft after applying, but following just one week of use, I have noticed my complexion looking calmer, smoother and more refined, with redness reduced.
The other two products in the NIP+FAB Kale Fix range include the Kale Fix Make-Up Removing Pads (£12.95, 60 pads) and Kale Fix Clay Mask (£12.95). The pads are an ideal alternative to face wipes or micellar waters. They come in incredibly handy when I return home late after work and/or events, and remove all traces of make-up, while gently cleansing and softening dry skin.
They say they are gentle enough to use around the eyes, but sensitive skins should proceed with caution as one of my eyes stung a little after use. Along with the key ingredients of the range, the Kale Fix pads harness allantoin, a chemical compound extracted from the roots and leaves of the comfrey plant, which provides a natural protectant for the skin to encourage cell generation. The Clay Mask is a supercharged mask enriched with minerals and witch hazel to work away at impurities without drying the skin: the perfect Friday or Sunday night relaxant I say!
The NIP+FAB Kale Fix range will be available from Superdrug.
