All clay masks are the same, right? Wrong, so wrong. I used to use clay masks all the time for my combination, pore ridden, sometimes congested skin but over the past year or so I’ve veered away from clay masks. Why? Because I just didn’t like how, they not only dried out my skin but how I had to really scrub to get the mask off – to me this was contradictory to applying a mask to soften and care for my skin.
But then I was sent the much hyped about mask of the moment from Sand & Sky. I wanted to know where this pink clay mask in the cute pot had come from and why everyone is talking about it. Made in Australia, the Sand & Sky Brilliant Skin mask works in 4 ways, yes 4!
1. Detox – the pink Australian clay draws out impurities and pollutants and refines pores and really gives skin a deep clean.
2. Invigorate – organic liquorice and old man’s weed help to regenerate and stimulate skin cells. Amazingly the mask also helps (over time) to remove pigmentation from the skin.
3. Refine – aloe vera and pomegranate shrink pores and soothe the skin and can also stimulate collagen production.
4. Brighten – kakadu plum and kelp and mangosteen help to prevent free radical damage and leave skin glowing and clear.
And this all sounds great doesn’t it but does it actually work? Well I’ve used this mask three times already (recommended twice a week use) and I have been literally blown away with how silky smooth my skin is left and glowing, really glowing.
And for me removing the clay mask after 10 minutes is so easy. Like any clay mask after 10 minutes, it sets. However, as soon as I put a wet flannel on to my face, the mask just melts away with no excessive rubbing required.
The Sand & Sky Brilliant Skin pink clay mask comes with a small brush to apply the mask. And I must admit I thought this was an unnecessary faff, but again I was wrong. By using this soft flat brush, the application of the mask is easy, not at all messy and means that an even amount of the clay is put all over your face. It’s a really pleasurable experience, particularly because the mask is so cooling when applied. This would be a great one if you’re having a hot flush or just need something cooling and soothing on your skin.
The hype around this mask is real and I love it. This is now a regular twice weekly part of my routine and one I look forward to.
