Now I’m officially in my mid-30s I’m all about skincare. I’m happy spending money on it, although I still love a couple of cheaper products, generally I want to invest in my skin, and I notice the difference.
Over the last year I’ve fallen in love with acids; hyaluronic, salicylic and glycolic acids have all proven to help my skin look refreshed, and have helped keep my rosacea under wraps. I use a product with acid every night, and have really felt the benefits.
I’d always heard of retinol, it’s been in skincare for a long time, however I’d yet to try it. I’d perhaps been a little nervous of it, I’d heard that you needed to use a high SPF in the day, and that you couldn’t use it for prolonged periods of time. Eeek.
Derived from vitamin A, retinol increases skin cell turnover, stimulates collagen synthesis and should lead to an improvement of fine lines, dark spots, texture, and tone. It can cause irritation and inflammation, which is perhaps why I’ve stayed away, but Merumaya has created its Retinol Resurfacing Treatment to provide a way to introduce this wonder ingredient into your skin care routine, with no negative side effects.
Using the highest amount of retinol permitted, they’ve added natural ingredients to counter the negative effects of retinol as well as giving additional benefits.
You can use the cream daily, however if skin reacts use every other day for a while. It is critical you only apply the cream at night, retinol makes your skin more light sensitive, and it is imperitive you apply an SPF during the day. Luckily I use a factor 50 as a primer every day, so I can relax. I’d even say that a regular foundation with SPF isn’t enough, you need to wear a full spectrum SPF.
I found when using it, my skin felt a little tingly, but not in a unpleasant way. I alternated it with my usual night products, as I did find that using it for a few days in a row felt a little sensitive. This lessened over time though.
I find that it helps with my congested skin, which is perhaps what resurfacing means! So does it do what it promises? Yes!
I’m excited to use it as part of my regular skin care routine, and this one is reasonably priced too. A winning combination.
It costs £33.50 and can be bought online here
