Here in the UK we’re obsessed with sleep: How much do we need? How much is everyone else getting? Are we getting enough? Some people need more than others, but one thing’s for sure: sleep matters. A consistent lack of it can affect your physical health and may even lead to long-term mood disorders like depression and anxiety. Good job then that a dreamy new brand has come to our rescue…
British brand Feather & Down has launched its wellbeing range, featuring everything you need to establish a relaxing bedtime routine long before (and when) your head hits the pillow. From bath and body care to home fragrance and travel essentials. The packaging is something to behold, in gorgeous tones of metallic blue with gold accents.
On first inspection you’d think this was a luxury brand. The great news though is that everything is really affordable, priced between £6 and £18. The products are free from parabens, sulphates and mineral oils too. So that’s two things you definitely won’t be losing sleep over.
The signature scent of lavender and chamomile is beautiful and gentle. It’s quite similar to baby lotion, and never cloying or overpowering. I sometimes find the lavender in similar sleep ranges distracting when I’m trying to nod off. Here though it’s been interlaced with creamy chamomile so it’s sweet and soothing.
A warm shower before bed means that once your body starts to cool down, it’ll be ready for rest. The melting shower cream melts into a calming oil when massaged into the skin. I’m a religious morning showerer, so this isn’t something I’d use as part of my regular routine. However I’ll definitely be keeping it for travelling as I think it’ll be really handy for unwinding after a long journey.
Massaging your skin with the soothing body oil helps seal in moisture and layer the fragrance for a turbo-charged sleep sensation. It’s non-greasy, so you can pop your sleepwear of choice straight on afterwards. No sooner had I opened this than my husband pinched it from the bathroom cabinet. This goes to show how gentle and unisex the scent of this range is.
Popping the all-purpose sleep balm onto your pulse points before you hit the hay is another sure fire way to ease your mind. Think wrists, temples and neck: Feather & Down say it’ll last longer here due to the beat of your heart. This is a very lightweight balm. The essential oils have been blended with nourishing Vitamin E as an added skincare bonus. It won’t weigh down your luggage either. I’d recommend taking it on flights to calm you if you’re a nervous flyer or need some help dropping off in the air.
If all this pampering hasn’t already sent you into the land of nod, a spritz of the pillow spray definitely will. I found it really enveloped me as I drifted off to sleep. It also helped me fall back asleep faster when I woke in the night. Although it lingered for as long as I needed it to, the scent was undetectable by the next day. This is a massive bonus in my eyes as it means you won’t get a nasty build up on your pillow if you use this a few nights in a row.
I can’t emphasise enough how much I love this range. The packaging, formulation and performance have all been nailed, at a great price and without compromising on quality. There was a gap in the market for more affordable sleep products, which, just like a plush duvet, Feather & Down has filled – and I hope it’s here to stay.
