Review of Elemental Herbology Oil Control Collection. Including Cool and Clear Facial Cleanser, Moisture Milk Facial Moisturiser and Facial Detox Purifying Facial Mask.
I have very oily skin. My skin is so oily that I’m glowing moments after applying the most formidable of mattifying powders. I also have the spots that often go with oily skin. Like most people over 30 I really thought my pizza face days ought to be long behind me, irritatingly that’s not the case.
Now that I’m older I feel like I’ve outgrown skincare aimed at teenagers even though I haven’t outgrown blemished skin. I’m always looking for ladylike skincare that suits my spot prone skin. I want something more sophisticated, with other skin benefits than just spot zapping.
Elemental Herbology is an English skincare brand that uses therapeutic levels of plant compounds, herbal extracts, essential fatty acids, botanical oils, vitamins, minerals, pure essential oils and anti-oxidants. As well as being cruelty free, Elemental Herbology works with projects that promote sustainability and supports farming communities. Their products are free from synthetic fragrance, artificial colour, sulphates, paraben preservatives and mineral oils. It’s not a budget brand but it’s worth paying more, I believe for products that are ethically made with great ingredients.
Elemental Herbology has a range of products designed for oily congested skin containing anti-bacterial botanticals such as Lavender and Tea Tree to purify oil prone and congested skin for a clear complexion. These products are exactly what I’m looking for during the oily summer months.
Elemental Herbology Cool and Clear facial wash comes in an attractive clear and metallic pump. It looks very swanky on my bathroom shelf. It contains patented ingredients formulated to lock moisture into the skin. It’s very important that skincare for oily skin isn’t drying, this will only make matters worse. You don’t want to send skin into an oil producing frenzy to compensate. As well as hydrating agents there are also natural extracts of chamomile (for soothing), green tea (an antioxidant) lavender and tea tree (antibacterial agents).
It smells mainly of lavender, which is a positive for me. It gives moderate foam, possibly because it doesn’t contain Sodium Laureth Sulphate. I’m sold on Cool and Clear, it smells great, leaves my skin clean and doesn’t dry out my skin.
Elemental Herbology Moisture Milk RRP £42
The moisturiser Elemental Herbology makes for oily skin is called Moisture Milk. I don’t know if I would describe it as a milk, it has more of a gel consistency. It has a pleasant herbal scent and soaks into skin leaving a slightly tacky finish. It’s a great light moisturising base for makeup.
The ingredients list is impressive- alpha Hydroxy acids, vitamins A,C and E, anti bacterial botanicals, patented hydrating agents, Aloe Vera and something called Sepitonic M3 which stimulates cell turnover. Moisture Milk comes in a pump and costs £42 for 50 ml.
I like Moisture Milk because it’s so light, there’s no greasiness. My skin feels really fresh when I use it. It’s hard finding a good balance when choosing a moisturiser for oily skin, Elemental Herbology has got this just right.
Elemental Herbology Facial Detox Purifying Mask RRP £28
Facial Detox Purifying Mask is a clay based mask for congested skin. It’s the sort of mask that makes your face feel really tight. I quite like that. Once it’s rinsed off my face feels really fresh and zingy.
Elemental Herbology advises using Facial Detox once a week, or twice weekly if skin is more congested. I’ve been having a few bad skin days recently so I’ve been using it more often. It’s good to have an decent face mask in the arsenal. Facial detox has a fresh Eucalyptus smell and feels refreshing and astringent on the skin. It’s ideal for calming the skin down during a flare up for taking down redness and inflammation.
Elemental Herbology’s products remind me a bit of Ren or Neal’s Yard. I love that they put such thought into ethical manufacturing and their ingredients. While using Elemental Herbology’s Oil Control Collection my skin hasn’t been dry or overly oily. I have had some spots whilst using them so it hasn’t cured my acne but it’s nursed me through my breakout and helped with the appearance of my skin immensely. Elemental Herbology is on the pricey side but I think it’s worth it for the quality you get.
