I am completely excited by the idea of CC creams. BB creams were exciting enough but CC creams in general promise to offer better coverage, colour correction, enhanced protection, lighter textures, better skincare benefits and a wider shade range.
So I have been checking out the Clinique Moisture Surge CC Cream SPF 30 Hydrating Colour Corrector which has come to me highly recommended.

So before I get into the ins and outs of it (and there are a few ins and outs), let me show you a before, after, and half and half picture, so that you can see what it looks like straight after I apply it. Keep reading though, as I have had a few problems with it post application.
Here is the before picture, with no makeup:

I really love the finish straight after I apply it but I am sad to say, there is something about this product that really does not agree with me.
I have tried it 3 times now, and each time it starts off beautifully and then within an hour my skin starts to feel and look really dry. My pores start to look open, it settles into my lines and pores, and the skin around my nose starts to look dry and cracked almost. It feels really quite uncomfortable.
I tried it 3 times because I was convinced it must have been something else causing the dryness, as I had heard such amazing things from British Beauty Blogger and Luke Stephens. Determined to make it work, I tried it one more time today but had the same result. I have been moisturising ever since. I also suspect that it may be the cause of a few minor breakouts I’ve have had around the times I have tried it.
As one of the claims of the Clinique CC Cream is superior hydration, I find this result so surprising particularly as I get on well with the Clinique Moisture Surge Overnight Mask. I can only assume that there must be a particular ingredient in it that I am possibly allergic to. It is such a shame because I love how it looks on my skin at first.
And if it’s not that, then perhaps it is a product much better suited to oily skins – I can see it working quite well then, as long as it doesn’t break you out.
So aside from my personal experience, I shall crack on with some colour swatches.

In case you’re interested colour-wise, I used a mix of very light and light medium.
I have also heard that it makes a great primer – but I’d definitely recommend you try before you buy.
The Clinique Moisture Surge CC Cream SPF 30 Hydrating Colour Corrector is available exclusively from John Lewis from the 5th April 2013 and Brown Thomas Dublin from the 29th March 2013 and will be nationwide at Clinique counters and www.clinique.co.uk from 26th April 2013.

  1. I think I’ll have to steer clear of this as my skin seems to be quite sensitive lately and has had this same drying reaction to Cleanse and Polish 🙁

  2. I have never been that excited about BB creams but this CC cream really does look fantastic on your skin. The thing that puts me off is consistency and staying power, so I probably wouldn’t want to invest in it but would certainly give it a go. I have to agree that this product has had rave reviews so it must have worked well for lots of bloggers! Great post x

  3. I had the same issues with this product, but I found putting on a moisturizer first solved the issues. It also seems to help this CC cream blend better when applying it.

  4. Well I have to say that of all the photos, I prefer your ‘Before’ photo best; you have beautiful skin and don’t need any make-up at all, as far as I’m concerned. You’re a lucky girl! 🙂

  5. Hi lovely! I’ve also tried the CC cream in the same light medium shade a few times and I must say I’m surprised that it acts so different on your skin. I must say my skin loves this cream. I have a combination skin type and I think as you said this product will work best on those with oily or combination skin types. I haven’t had any problems, it didn’t dried my skin or break me out and sometimes I had it on for almost 16 hours. It’s such a shame this product doesn’t work for you as I love it so much and use it everytime instead of foundation. Perhaps if you try a rich moisturizing cream that will help you skin feeling superhydrated so that the CC cream won’t dry out your complexion so much.

  6. This product is extremely good for real~~~My skin is different than when not used, the skin’s surface is smooth and bright white. Moreover, cc does not make your skin uncomfortable. After spend 2 types, i totally satisfy with this product. I introduced them to my friends.I decided to spend this long :):)
